Hua Hin Golf Guide

We have been able to negotiate the following special golfing packages for clients who make their hotel reservations with Huahinjapan.com. The following rates include round-trip transport from your hotel to the golf course, green and caddy fees. Advance notice would be appreciated for bookings for two or more people.

Palm Hills

Palm Hills, which opened in 1991, is one of the pre-eminent course in the Hua Hin area, a status that was proven when it was chosen to stage the Thailand World Pro Am in 1993, which earned it high praise from the British PGA. Located 80 metres above Sea level, Palm Hills is noted for its rolling and gently undulating fairways. The sole exception to this gentle terrain can be found on the 10th hole, where one comes across a semi-blind tee shot from the side of an imposing limestone mountain. As for water hazards, these can be found in particular on the 2nd, 8th, 11th and 14th holes. Apart from golf, Palm Hills has excellent clubhouse facilities, with the adjoining Country Club offering a large swimming pool, tennis, badminton and squash courts, as well as  a fully equipped Gymnasium for the really energetic.

Springfield

Springfield, which opened in 1993, has the distinction of having been designed by the great Jack Nicklaus. Although designed to meet the requirements of championship golf, this course still manages to offer an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all standards. The first hole is a par 4, gentle 367 yards and can, at first, appear quite simple. However, looks can be deceiving and this well protected green can be surprisingly difficult, requiring some accuracy. What with its inspired layout, scenic views over streams, lakes and the gulf of Thailand, you might easily find this course quite addictive. Off the greens, the clubhouse, located in an elevated position that offers some fine views, is beautifully finished in polished marble and granite, and feels more like a stately home than a golf course.

Majestic Creek

This is one Hua Hin's newest courses, and your enjoyment begins with a scenic journey that offers views of rural Thai life, including fields filled with sugar cane, pineapple, bananas and mangos. When you arrive and prepare to tee-off, be prepared: the first hole offers more than a few problems and possible solutions. Should you prefer the conventional route, this is a relatively easy par four. However, should you feel more adventurous, then try to cut the dog-leg corners -- which will really test your skill! The hazards of the 1st hole may whet your appetite for what follows, a succession of exhilarating and challenging holes. What with its mountain side location and its hazards, both natural and designed, Majestic Creek offers a round full of excitement and  challenge. For the 'apres-golf', there is a clubhouse offering all the facilities you could wish for.

Imperial Lakeview

Once again, your golfing experience begins with a charming ride past small farms and pineapple plantations, ending at one of the best golf courses around Hua Hin. The design of this championship course suggests something akin to a spirit of adventure, with hidden greens, mature palm trees and well defined fairways. Be prepared to think on your feet, as spot decisions will have to be made starting at the opening hole. However, the choice is yours. Painless par's are one alternative but should that prospect bore you, why not try something more adventurous? A round at this course will present some good tests of both your courage and putting dexterity. The Imperial Lake view has a par of 72 and offers a championship 6,900 yards from the back tees. However, golf isn't all that's on offer here. The Lake View's magnificent clubhouse also has facilities for tennis and squash.

Royal Hua Hin

Thailand's oldest golf course has justly been called the "aristocrat of Thai golf courses". Designed (at the request of King Rama 6) back in 1924 by a suitably Scottish railway engineer, A.O. Robins, this Par 72, 6,654 yards course may lack some of the finer points of a, say, Jack Nicklaus' course, but has nonetheless impressed golfers from all over the world for many years. Indeed, one local English resident summed it up like so: "This is like an English country course. If it wasn't for the temperature, you could be playing in England". Occupying an area of over 72 hectares, the Royal Hua Hin couldn't be more conveniently located. Sitting at the foot of the scenic Khao Hin Lek Fai hill, it is almost opposite the historic railway station, just a few minutes walk from the main beach! As you progress around the course, you'll be presented with views of hills, temples, the sea and its own resident monkeys -- plus some rather good golf, devoid of any water hazards at all! No matter which course eventually wins your affection, every visitor to Hua Hin owes it to themselves to try the Royal at least once.

Milford Golf Club (Hua Hin Seoul Country Club)

Situated between Hua Hin and Pranburi and clearly visible from Petchakasem Road as you head south, the Milford Paradise and Golf Club was designed in 1992 by the renowned American golfer Robert McFarland. This course has a really peaceful "links" feel, what with its seaside location and the forested hills on three sides. Its natural lie produces quite a large angle of elevation on most of the holes, which can certainly add to the challenge of the course. What's more, it is known locally as having a fast green, which might lead to some familiarization problems for first timers.
